If you weren’t able to join us this past weekend at the Mane Event, you missed out! Just kidding, well, kind of 😛
The Mane Event is a trade show and expo that is held every year in Chilliwack, BC in October and again in Red Deer, AB in April. I have yet to make it out to the Alberta event, but BC draws pretty big crowds and offers a wide variety of vendors, all horsey related. There’s also an almost constant stream of demonstrations and clinics going on in four different arenas. They cover a wide variety of interests and disciplines including dressage, jumping, barrel racing, side saddle, driving, cow working, etc. -there are many more!
But one of the biggest draws – or at least seems to gather the largest crowd – is the Trainers Challenge. This challenge pits three trainers with three unbroke colts and asks them to do what is normally done in 30 or 60 days – essentially start the colt under saddle. For more details you can check out the Mane Event’s website here. This years winner was Kade Mills, son of Doug Mills – 5 time winner of Trainers Challenge at the Mane Event.
In addition to seeing some beautiful riding and some talented trainers, I had the opportunity to meet a number of wonderful people. Some of the vendors I chatted with include Ralph of Herbs for Horses, Deborah of Cat & Mouse Design and I didn’t really get to chat with Valhalla Studios but she’s got some gorgeous jewelry and so I wanted to include it here!
All in all, this was a great experience. Long and tiring, certainly, but it was amazing to be able to talk to so many people one-on-one about Horse Resource Network and share with them what we’re about. There were a lot of positive responses and it was a great experience all around!
